My 2014 Travel (Foursquare) Data Visualized

I’ve traveled more days this year than any other year of my life. Most of my travel was for work, but some of it was for fun.
So, this is what 82 flights to 21 states and two provinces looks like on a map.
My one regret this year was not going overseas, but I think I’ll be able to make up for that soon. While I don’t know what 2015 will bring me, I’m excited for the possibilities that are on the horizon.
Here’s to a new year filled with new adventures, new explorations, and meeting new friends. Happy New Year!
So, how did I make this map? I use Foursquare/Swarm (and have been using it for five years) to check in to venues that I visit. I love that it gives a history of where I’ve been, and makes it much easier to remember a cool spot so I can recommend it later.
To map your Foursquare/Swarm data:
  1. Head over to your feeds section on Foursquare, copy the KML feed
  2. Open Classic Google Maps and paste the KML feed
  3. Go to your Foursquare history and find the date/check in you want to start with
  4. To get more than 25 results, add ‘?count=1000’ (without the ‘, of course) and change the number to match the check in you want to start with (this could take some trial and error)
